MOSCOW, October 3 (R-Sport) – Residents of 16 Russian cities will have the opportunity to watch the Sochi Winter Olympics at so-called Live Site venues with big screens and stages, Games organizers said Thursday.

The initiative will allow people who can't travel to the Black Sea resort for the February 7-23 event to get a taste of the Olympic spirit, organizers say.

Apart from competition broadcasts, the Live Sites will feature music and entertainment programs, sports contests and educational activities for kids.

Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, and Sochi itself are among the cities to host the fan zones on central squares.

Similar projects were carried out in at Winter and Summer Games in Sydney, Salt Lake City, Torino, Beijing, Vancouver and London.

At the London Olympics, the main International Live Site in Hyde Park was visited by 75,000 spectators every day, while around 35,000 graced the Vancouver site daily.
