MOSCOW, October 7 (RAPSI) – The former head of a Moscow city department has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for embezzling 180 million rubles ($5.45 million) from a state development fund, the Prosecutor General's Office reported on Monday.
According to prosecutors, Andrei Barkanov, a former head of Moscow’s Directorate for Development and Reconstruction of Unique Objects, embezzled funds intended for long-term projects in two districts of northwest Moscow from November 2010 through March 2011.
In April, the Prosecutor General's office reported that Barkanov was accused of embezzling 1.5 billion rubles paid to his company to complete long-term development projects. The court also fined Barkanov 400,000 rubles ($12,500).
