MOSCOW, October 8 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian government airliner on Tuesday evacuated 76 people, including 47 Russians, from war-torn Syria’s main port city, Latakia, a spokeswoman for Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said.
“At 4:55 p.m. an Il-62 jet with 76 people – mostly women and children wanting to leave Syria – took off from Latakia,” spokeswoman Irina Rossius said.
Besides the Russians, the passengers included six Ukrainians, one Moldovan and 22 Syrians. The plane was scheduled to land in Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport later that day.
