MOSCOW, October 9 (RIA Novosti) – A man trying to sell an endangered slow loris at Moscow’s Kursky Station for 60,000 rubles ($1,800) was detained in a sting operation Wednesday, police said.
The man is facing charges of illegal procurement and possession of an animal considered endangered by Russian authorities and protected under international treaties, a police spokesman said.
The loris has been handed over to the Moscow city environmental department for quarantine, the official said.
All slow loris species were given protection from international sale in 2007 under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
