NALCHIK, October 16 (RIA Novosti) – Europe’s highest located hotel has opened on the slopes of Russia’s Mount Elbrus, local officials said Wednesday.
The hotel in the North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria stands 4,000 meters (13,120 feet) above sea level and cost some 130 million rubles ($4 million) to complete.
Elbrus district government officials said in a statement that the hotel, which consists of a series of modular prefabricated buildings, has already begun welcoming guests.
Components for the hotel were manufactured in Italy and brought to Kabardino-Balkaria for assembly, officials said.
The statement said the hotel is equipped with solar batteries that provide it with light, heating and hot water.
