MOSCOW, October 17 (RIA Novosti) – The government of Poland has become the latest target of Internet hacking collective Anonymous in what the group says is a response to the country’s economy ministry becoming embroiled in global industrial espionage.
Anonymous leaked documents from the website of Poland’s Economy Ministry as part of what media has reported is an ongoing hacking operation codenamed “Operation Golden Dawn.”
The documents taken from the website appear to include visa requests, email correspondence from ministry officials, login and password data for government websites, and scans of passports of foreign citizens invited to work in Poland.
The ministry says it has taken additional security measures following the attack.
Earlier this week, the group hacked into the websites of Greece’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
International media has reported that the three attacks are part of a single Anonymous operation, although the overall motivation is unclear.
Golden Dawn is the name of an extreme right-wing Greek political party linked to a string of violent attacks on migrants, gays and leftists.
Over a dozen party members were recently arrested on charges of forming a criminal organization, with Greek media reporting that some had been linked to a fatal stabbing of a popular hip-hop star in September.
