MEXICO CITY, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - St. Petersburg-based Mariinsky Ballet company on Thursday begins its first tour in Mexico in the past decade attracting thousands of local ballet aficionados to sold-out performances.
“It is the fourth time that we arrive here, and I believe we have many friends in Mexico,” director of the Mariinsky Ballet Yuri Fateyev told a news conference in Mexico City on Wednesday.
Fateyev said the travelling troupe comprised 130 dancers and support personnel, including some promising young talents.
The program of the three-day tour includes performances of Le Corsaire and Mikhail Fokine's ballets Chopiniana, Petrushka and Scheherazade.
The Mariinsky previous tours in Mexico in 2001-2003 were a huge success and drew an audience of over 115,000 people, according to organizers.
