WASHINGTON, October 17 (RIA Novosti) – The World Boxing Organization’s (WBO) top ranked junior welterweight contender, Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov, will get a crack at the title this Saturday, when he takes on the world champion, Mike Alvarado from the United States, in Denver.
Provodnikov said he planned to force Alvarado, who is defending the title for the first time, into a brawl: “I don’t think he’ll be able to box with me as well as he thinks. This will turn into a fight,” Boxing News 24.com reported this week.
Provodnikov, 29, has fought 24 times since turning professional in 2006, losing only two and winning 15 by knockout.
Alvarado, 33, has fought 35 professional fights, and lost only one, winning 23 by knockout.
The fight will be televised by the American cable network HBO.
