MOSCOW, October 19 (R-Sport) – World No. 3 Maria Sharapova on Saturday appeared to deny rumors she is pregnant by suggesting she would be ready to play in a tournament in three weeks' time, even though that would come after the end of the current season.
Earlier this month, the Russian star withdrew from next week's season-ending WTA Championships in Istanbul, citing a shoulder injury that has allowed her to play only one match in the last three months.
“I wish there (were) a tournament in 3 weeks!” Sharapova wrote on her Twitter feed when asked when her next appearance would be.
Bulgarian media on Friday claimed that the real reason why the 26-year-old skipped the event was her pregnancy. Sharapova is currently dating Bulgaria's world No. 28 Grigor Dimitrov.
Last week, Sharapova announced she would appear in a series of exhibition matches in Bogota, Mexico City and Thailand in December to prepare for the new season.
Sharapova is currently without a coach, having fired eight-time Grand Slam winner Jimmy Connors after just one match with him, a second-round defeat to Sloane Stephens at Cincinnati in August.
