One in five Russian office workers would be willing to pass on confidential commercial information in exchange for the right amount of money, according to a recent survey.

MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) – One in five Russian office workers would be willing to pass on confidential commercial information in exchange for the right amount of money, according to a recent survey.

Techonology affairs website Digit.ru reported Tuesday that IT company Leta’s survey revealed that 25 percent of company employees never block their computers when leaving their workplace, thereby giving easy access to corporate information.

Over 1,100 office workers from several hundred Russian companies took part in the study carried out in August and September.

The survey revealed that half the respondents had never been briefed on information-handling procedures. Only 14 percent have been regularly instructed on data-security requirements, Leta said.

The majority of users are also unaware of the danger of corporate email hacking.

Eighty-five percent of respondents in Leta’s survey said they open messages from unknown senders, while 60 percent resend corporate information to private email accounts in order to work at home.

Some 30 percent of respondents keep their passwords on a scrap of paper attached to a computer screen or on the desktop, according to Leta’s survey.
