NOVO-OGARYOVO, October 23 (RIA Novosti) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday opened a Gazprom gas and condensate field in the Sea of Okhotsk, 28 kilometers from Sakhalin.
He said the launch of the Kirinskoye gas field, which holds an estimated 162.5 billion cubic meters of gas and 19.1 million tons of gas condensate, “signals another step of strengthening Russia’s positions on the world energy markets.”
“Today we are present at a very significant event in this country’s energy sector: gas extraction is starting at a field that is one of the most promising and largest in the Sea of Okhotsk,” Putin told Gazprom officials via a video link from his residence outside Moscow.
The Kirinskoye field, to supply Eastern Siberia and the Far East, is expected to produce 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
