MOSCOW, October 23 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian woman who beat a goat to death in a fit of anger was found guilty of cruelty to animals and sentenced to 230 hours of community service, local prosecutors said Wednesday.
The 37-year-old woman, a former correctional facility employee living in the Nizhny Novgorod region east of Moscow, tripped over a rope to which the goat was tethered, shortly after arguing with a male acquaintance after drinking liquor on August 11, the prosecutors' statement said.
She beat the animal to death with her fists and feet, breaking one of its horns in the process, then hid the goat’s body on the second floor of a nearby abandoned house and left.
Prosecutors did not say in the statement who the goat belonged to, but did say that as the result of a civil lawsuit, its killer, who admitted her guilt, had also been ordered to pay 4,000 rubles ($125) – the estimated value of the animal.
