MOSCOW, October 28 (RAPSI) – The European Court of Human Rights is to consider an appeal filed by another suspect facing charges over rioting at a political demonstration in the Russian capital in May last year, his defense attorney said Monday.
Denis Lutskevich, one of several demonstrators charged with violent disorder at a demonstration on the eve of Vladimir Putin’s presidential inauguration, says his right to freedom and personal immunity were violated.
Seven other defendants in the case have previously challenged their conditions of their detention and the refusal by the courts to release them from custody.
The ECHR has accepted and merged the complaints, which have been assigned priority status.
Another four defendants, including Lutskevich, also filed applications later.
Over 400 people were arrested and scores were injured at the May 6 rally when protesters briefly broke through police lines, triggering violent clashes.
A criminal case was initiated after a documentary film entitled "Anatomy of Protest 2" was shown on the pro-Kremlin NTV television channel.
The documentary claimed the opposition was organizing a coup funded from abroad.
