MOSCOW, October 29 (R-Sport/RIA Novosti) – The sale of the final tranche of tickets for the Sochi Winter Olympics will begin on November 10, the president of Russia’s Olympic Organizing Committee said Tuesday.
The rest of the tickets for the Games, to be held in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi in February, will be available to buyers both electronically and in person at sales points in Moscow and Sochi, said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
About 60 percent of all the tickets available for the 2014 Winter Olympics have already been sold, said Chernyshenko. Organizers have declined to say exactly how many tickets have been bought overall.
Tickets were previously released in two tranches – on February 7 and October 10. On October 10, organizers said over 150,000 ticket applications were processed in the first hour of sales.
The last major international sporting event to be hosted by Russia, the World Athletic Championships in Moscow in August, was marred by half-empty stadiums. Authorities gave away free tickets in an attempt to boost crowd numbers.
