YEKATERINBURG, November 2 (RIA Novosti) – A penal colony guard and a prisoner were allegedly found shot dead in Russia’s Sverdlovsk Region after a two-day search in local taiga, police reported on Saturday.
On Thursday, an official with a regional prison and two inmates went to the forest to do regular logging for the colony and didn't return by the scheduled time.
The investigators said Saturday in a statement that the police allegedly discovered the bodies of the guard and one of the prisoners with gunshot wounds. The police are now looking for the third prisoner, whose whereabouts remained unknown on Saturday. The statement said that the area is hard to search due to the lack of roads and no mobile phone signal.
Both prisoners were convicted on murder charges. One of them was sentenced to 12 years in jail and the other to 13. They were supposed to be released in 2014 and 2016 accordingly.
