MOSCOW, November 8 (R-Sport) – Russia’s stricken Chechnya-based football club Terek Grozny appointed ex-Lokomotiv Moscow coach Rashid Rakhimov on Thursday to save it from relegation from the Russian Premier League.

His predecessor Yury Krasnozhan was fired last week after winning just one of 14 games this season as Terek sits 15th in the table and in the relegation zone.

“Rakhimov is a famous specialist who has the reputation of an ambitious and demanding coach,” team president Magomed Daudov said on Terek’s website. “We hope he will be able to change the situation and lift the team from the lower part of the table.”

The 48-year-old Rakhimov, who played international football for Russia and his native Tajikistan, has signed a two-year contract, Terek said.

Rakhimov has been unemployed since September 2011 when he was fired from Amkar Perm. He has also coached Lokomotiv and Austrian side Admira Wacker.

In Rakhimov's first match in charge, Terek will travel to defending champion CSKA Moscow on Sunday.
