KRASNODAR, November 9 (RIA Novosti) – Six members of a gang that tormented a southern Russian town for years were on Friday found guilty of murdering a dozen people purportedly to avenge the death of the gang leader’s brother.
The gang members are believed to have fatally stabbed eight adults and strangled three children in a house that belonged to a wealthy farmer who the gang leader said was involved in the killing of his brother, according to the indictment.
The gang then set the house on fire, and another child died of smoke inhalation, the court heard. The incident occurred in 2010, in the town of Kushchyovskaya.
The judge is due to perform the sentencing soon. Defense lawyer Vyacheslav Dmitriyenko has said the verdict will be appealed.
