MOSCOW, November 13 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian journalist who was severely beaten three years ago has filed a complaint with a Moscow court in protest at what he says is reluctance by authorities to properly investigate the case, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
Oleg Kashin, an outspoken blogger and journalist who came to prominence for his anti-government views, was attacked outside his apartment building in November 2010.
The incident is widely believed to be linked to his critical reporting.
The perpetrators of the attack have never been found, despite promises made by then-President Dmitry Medvedev to get to the bottom of the incident.
Kashin’s lawyer, Rakhmet Akhmetgaliyev, told the Vedomosti business daily that his client is aggrieved by the lack of progress in the case.
“Over the past two years, investigative bodies and the FSB [Federal Security Service] have practically been inactive and have taken no steps to look into possible explanations for the crime and find the individuals that committed it,” the court complaint obtained by Vedomosti says.
Kashin, who writes on politics and social issues for Russian and foreign media outlets, currently lives in Switzerland.
He has repeatedly maintained that he suspects pro-Kremlin youth activists of being behind the attack.
