MOSCOW, November 13 (RIA Novosti) – A man has been taken to a hospital after being shot at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport Wednesday upon flying in from Kyrgyzstan, police said, in what media reports claim was a well-planned robbery.

The unidentified assailant opened fire from a car, reportedly a taxi, at 09:26 a.m. Moscow time (05:26 GMT) in the airport’s D-terminal parking lot, a police spokesman said.

A police source said a bag containing money was stolen in the attack, which the source described as “an assault, not an attempted murder.”

Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper said the man was carrying $1.6 million. The report identifies the victim as Vyacheslav Zapryagayev, 39, and says he has been hospitalized with wounds to his arm and leg. Eyewitnesses memorized the car’s number plate and informed the police, but the plate turned out to be fake, other media reports said.

A similar incident occurred in another Moscow airport, Vnukovo, in 2009 when four armed men stole a bag containing $1 million from a man who had flown in from Russia’s southern republic of Dagestan. The attackers fled the scene.
