MOSCOW, November 13 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow police detained a woman Tuesday evening that they suspect of shooting a migrant rights campaigner earlier in the week.
Migrants of Russia Federation vice president Mais Kurbanov was rushed to hospital Monday night after a group of unknown attackers shot him in the back with a traumatic pistol, a type of non-lethal gun.
Police said the detained suspect was born in 1989 in the Tambov region in Western Russia. The woman has since been released on written condition she not leave the city.
A criminal case on hooliganism charges was opened in connection with the incident.
Kurbanov, who is an outspoken critic of Russian nationalists, attempted to mount a protest march last week on Russia’s national Unity Day holiday, an event that draws thousands of nationalists for rallies in the capital.
Kurbanov’s colleagues speculated that the attack might connected to his work.
