MOSCOW, November 15 (RIA Novosti) – A group of German officers will inspect facilities and daily operations at the Russian military base in Tajikistan on November 18-21 in line with international agreements, a spokesman for the Russian Central Military District said Thursday.

The inspection will be carried out in accordance with the Vienna Document 2011 agreement between 56 participating states of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe aimed at implementing confidence- and security-building measures.

“A group of inspectors from Germany, led by Col. Axel Schneider, will visit the 201st military base, attend the base commander’s briefing and inspect the scope of the base’s daily operations that are subject to full disclosure,” Col. Yaroslav Roshchupkin told RIA Novosti.

A total of 7,000 Russian troops are stationed at three military facilities collectively known as the 201st military base – in Dushanbe, the southwestern city of Qurgonteppa some 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Dushanbe, and Kulob, about 200 kilometers southwest of the capital.

The base was opened in 2004 and hosts Russia’s largest military contingent deployed abroad.
