MOSCOW, November 15 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow Region police have detained a former oil company executive suspected of stealing nearly $800 million from a state bank through several falsely obtained loans, Russian media reported Friday.
Fyodor Khoroshilov, a former executive at Sibneft, which was acquired by Russian state energy giant Gazprom, was apprehended Thursday night in an elite gated community several years after he was put on an international wanted list, media reports said.
Police said that Khoroshilov knowingly provided falsified documents to obtain loans totaling $776 million from 2005 to 2008 from state-controlled bank VTB, specifically “for the purpose of stealing the money.”
A police spokesman said Friday that Khoroshilov would be sent to the Urals city of Yekaterinburg as part of the ongoing investigation.
