MOSCOW, November 17 (RIA Novosti) - Dozens of Russian tourists were injured in a bus accident in Thailand on Sunday, officials and media reported.
Thailand’s daily The Nation reported that a bus carrying tourists had flipped over on its side in Rayong in the country’s east after skidding out of control in rainy weather, leaving 26 Russian passengers “slightly injured.”
The tourists were being transferred from a hotel in Pattaya to Samet Island. All those injured were taken to local hospitals, the paper said.
Meanwhile, Andrei Dvornikov, the Russian consul in Thailand’s capital Bangkok, told RIA Novosti that 30 people had suffered injuries and bruises in the crash. He said almost all had been discharged from the hospitals soon.
Dvornikov cited passengers as saying the bus driver had been speeding. He also cited the driver as saying the brakes had suddenly failed.
The bus was carrying 43 foreign tourists, including Russians, a spokeswoman for the Russian Federal Tourism Agency, told RIA Novosti.
An investigation is under way.
On Friday, at least 23 Russian tourists were injured in a bus crash near a beach resort town in Thailand.
