A new reality television series backed by the National Hockey League will give a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of its top stars, including their preparations and on-ice action at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the league said Monday.

WASHINGTON, November 18 (RIA Novosti) – A new reality television series backed by the National Hockey League will give a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of its top stars, including their preparations and on-ice action at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the league said Monday.

In addition to showing the players during the NHL regular season, the seven-part series will give fans the chance to see “the exciting road to the Olympic Games in Sochi where many teammates will become competitors as they play for their home countries,” Steve Webb of the NHL Players’ Association said in a statement.

The series is set to begin airing Jan. 22 on the sports network NBCSN in the United States and on the CBC network in Canada, where it will also be rebroadcast on the Sportsnet channel.

No Russian players in the North American league were named in the statement as those expected to be featured in the series, which is titled “NHL Revealed,” though it identified only a handful of names while saying that “more than two dozen” of the league’s top stars would have their stories told.

One of the players named in the announcement was Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, a teammate of star center and Russian national team player Evgeni Malkin.
