MAKHACHKALA, November 19 (RIA Novosti) – Another suspected accomplice in a deadly bombing in Russia’s southern city of Volgograd last month was shot dead in the turbulent North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Tuesday, a police source said.
“Militant Ruslan Kazanbiyev, who had been holed up in a house in [the regional capital] Makhachkala, has been killed. He was one of the suspected organizers of the Volgograd bombing,” police said.
On October 21, a female suicide bomber identified as 30-year-old Naida Asiyalova, from Dagestan, blew herself up on the bus, killing six and injuring some 50 people.
Federal anti-terrorism officials said Saturday that her husband, 21-year-old Dmitry Sokolov, was a suspected key accomplice in the bombing and claimed responsibility during talks with law enforcement officers.
He and four other suspected militants were killed later that day.
Three other militants were still holed up in the Makhachkala house on Tuesday, and efforts to detain them were under way, a local law enforcement officer said.
