MOSCOW, November 19 (RIA Novosti) – A dog in western Siberia narrowly avoided an untimely end in the stomach of a local criminal who punched a small girl in order to kidnap the canine, investigators said.
The 47-year-old suspect attacked two underage girls walking their Labrador Retriever in a park in the town of Osinniki in the Kemerovo Region, the local branch of the Investigative Committee said.
The drunken perpetrator dragged the dog away by its leash after punching one of the girls, but was soon apprehended by police, the committee said late Monday.
The suspect, who had a criminal record, told investigators he planned to eat the dog.
The man, whose name was withheld, now faces up to seven years in prison on robbery charges over the incident, which took place in August but was not reported before.
The Labrador was returned to its owners, the investigators said.
