ST. PETERSBURG, November 23 (RIA Novosti) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that domestic aircraft manufacturers should build their planes using parts made in the country.
Developing domestic capabilities will allow Russian aircraft producers to secure independence from foreign engine manufacturers and reduce their reliance on imported components, Putin said.
The Russian leader said the share of imported components for some helicopter engines had reached 80 percent.
Russian manufacturers should offer innovative and high-quality products and increase the share of engines certified in line with global requirements and standards in order to be able to compete with international rivals, Putin said.
