MOSCOW, November 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russian police are looking for a group of car thieves suspected of disguising themselves as traffic police to steal a car allegedly containing two million dollars, the Moscow Interior Ministry said.
A number of people wearing traffic police uniforms, driving an Audi Infiniti, stopped a BMW in the center of Moscow at gunpoint and forced the driver to get out at about 12 p.m. Thursday, the statement said.
The phony cops then drove off in the two cars, police said, without specifying how many suspects were involved.
A police source told RIA Novosti that the driver of the BMW originally complained to police only about the car theft, but later added that the stolen car was carrying two million dollars.
Over 100,000 cars were stolen in Moscow in 2012, according to Interior Ministry statistics.
