MOSCOW, November 24 (RIA Novosti) – A man who was blown up by his own bomb in Russia’s North Caucasus on Saturday was responsible for preparing a terror attack on a bus in the south Russian city of Volgograd in October, Russia’s Anti-Terror Committee said on Sunday.
The suspected dead bomber, named as Suleiman Magomedov, was a member of a terrorist group in the city of Makhachkala, the capital of the southern Republic of Dagestan, the committee claimed.
“He played a central role in a series of terrorist crimes…including an attack on a traffic police post in Makhachkala in May this year…and the recent explosion by a female suicide bomber on a passenger bus in Volgograd,” it said.
The committee said Magomedov died in an explosion as he was placing his five kilo (11 pound) TNT bomb for an attack on a police post on Saturday evening. A Saiga carbine and Stechkin automatic pistol were found in a rucksack next to Magomedov’s body, the police said.
