Irish budget airline Ryanair, whose cheap tickets have made it one of Europe’s most popular air carriers, is seeking to begin non-stop flights between Dublin and Russian cities Moscow and St. Petersburg as soon as March.

MOSCOW, November 26 (RIA Novosti) – Irish budget airline Ryanair, whose cheap tickets have made it one of Europe’s most popular air carriers, is seeking to begin non-stop flights between Dublin and Russian cities Moscow and St. Petersburg as soon as March.

Russia’s state air transportation agency, Rosaviatsia, posted a letter from the Irish Embassy on its website Monday saying such flights would “benefit business and tourism relations between the two countries.”

The new routes would mark Russia’s third low-cost window to the West after budget airlines easyJet and Wizz Air respectively began flights to England and Hungary earlier this year.

Dublin-based Ryanair, which offers daily flights between 180 cities, carried nearly 74 passengers last year, a full 5 million more than all Russian airlines combined.

A spokesman for Rosaviatsia told RIA Novosti that documentation for the agreement was still being prepared.
