PARIS/TEL AVIV, November 26 (RIA Novosti) – Soviet-born Israeli businessman Arkady Gaydamak has been arrested in Switzerland, Israel’s Channel Two reported Monday evening.
The channel reported that Gaydamak was in Switzerland to deal with an ongoing arbitration case and has been detained for several days in response to an arrest warrant from Luxembourg.
“The detention may be linked with the much talked about Angolagate case about illegal weapon deliveries (to Angola) and corruption charges against Gaydamak,” the channel said.
The Jerusalem Post newspaper gave slightly different information, claiming Gaydamak had been arrested in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg news website PaperJam suggested Gaydamak’s arrest may be linked to the sale of a phosphate factory in Kazakhstan.
