KRASNOYARSK, November 28 (RIA Novosti) – A Siberian school has been temporarily closed after an outbreak of infectious pneumonia, a regional spokesman from Russia’s consumer protection watchdog said Thursday.
Ten students at the school in the village of Yermakovskoye in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region come down with the disease, the Rospotrebnadzor spokesman said.
The school has been closed until December 4 to keep the outbreak from spreading.
The students have been hospitalized, but their lives are not in danger and no new cases have been identified, a statement on the regional Rospotrebnadzor website said.
Pneumonia, a lung infection that causes fever, chest pains and coughing, can turn deadly if not treated properly. Russia’s top military doctor was fired in January after five soldiers died of pneumonia.
