VILNIUS, November 29 (RIA Novosti) – Lithuanian police detained a member of the Ukrainian feminist group Femen on Friday for a trademark topless protest against Kiev’s decision not to sign a key deal with the European Union.
The female protester stripped off outside the venue of the Eastern Partnership summit between EU countries and six former Soviet states that began in the small Baltic state of Lithuania on Thursday, a week after Ukraine made the surprise announcement that it would not sign long-planned association and free trade agreements at the summit.
According to the Delfi news portal, the feminist activist had been sitting in a car near the Litexpo exhibition center where the summit is taking place.
The young woman reportedly told police officers patrolling the area that she felt unwell and requested medical assistance.
However, when doctors arrived she quickly stripped to the waist, revealing the Ukrainian flag and the slogan “Ukraine to EU” painted on her body.
The activist was immediately detained and taken to a police station.
She is likely to be charged with breaching public order. Police are reportedly also collecting evidence to charge her over the callout of the emergency services under false pretences.
