MOSCOW, December 2 (RIA Novosti) – Two Russian nationals accused of collaborating with the regime of deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi were transferred to the capital Tripoli to stand trial there, a Russian diplomat said Monday.
“They [the Russians] were taken from the city of Zintan to Tripoli. The Libyan side is ostensibly going to try them in a civilian court,” said Leonid Frolov, a senior Russian Embassy official.
The two Russians, Vladimir Dolgov and Alexander Shadrov, were arrested in the fall of 2011, along with 19 Ukrainians and three Belarusians also accused of collaborating with the Gadhafi regime.
A military court convicted the Russians of taking part in military operations on the side of troops loyal to the ousted former Libyan leader. Shadrov was sentenced to life in prison, while Dolgov got 10 years.
They had their verdict overturned in mid-August, but have not been acquitted.
