MOSCOW, December 2 (RIA Novosti) – The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is this week expected to approve an international plan of action on providing support to Afghanistan after the scheduled departure of US-led forces in 2014.

A declaration on the plan will be adopted at a meeting of the OSCE’s Ministerial Council, due to be held in Kiev on December 5-6, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Zakharova said the agenda will help outline the organization’s future cooperation with Afghanistan in fighting threats like drugs, terrorism, and weapons proliferation after the International Security Assistance Force leaves the country next year.

ISAF, set up by the United Nations in 2001, is made up of troops from 49 nations. The mission was charged with fighting terrorism in Afghanistan and gradually transferring security responsibility over to the country’s own military.

Most foreign troops are expected to leave Afghanistan when the ISAF’s mandate expires in December 2014.
