MOSCOW, December 8 (RIA Novosti) – US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland will arrive in Moscow Sunday for talks with senior Russian government officials.
During the three-day visit to the Russian capital, Nuland is expected to meet with Russian deputy foreign ministers, as well as foreign policy experts and civil society representatives.
Earlier this week, Nuland paid a visit to Georgia to meet with the country’s new leadership and Ukraine, where she attended a ministerial meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and held talks with the opposition.
In Kiev, gripped by massive anti-government protests, Nuland told journalists: “This is Ukraine’s moment to meet the aspirations of its people or to disappoint them, and risk descending into chaos and violence.”
The rallies in Kiev and in other cities across Ukraine erupted late last month in reaction to the government’s decision to back away from a deal to sign association agreement and free trade deals with the EU.
