MOSCOW, December 17 (RIA Novosti) – Three people accused of trying to sell a position at the Interior Ministry have been arrested by police, the ministry said in a statement.
One of the three suspects was detained while receiving 3.3 million rubles ($100,000) as an advance payment for the post, the ministry said. Two suspected accomplices were detained later.
“According to information obtained during the investigation, the impostors posed as “trusted persons” of high-ranking political and law enforcement officials,” it said.
Russian media reported on Monday that the suspects requested a payment of more than $600,000 for employment in the ministry.
The Interior Ministry said the suspects’ claims of having government connections were not confirmed during the investigation.
A criminal case was launched on charges of swindling. Two people were held in pretrial detention and one is under house arrest.
