Senegal’s navy has detained a Russian fishing vessel, the Oleg Naydenov, and is escorting it to the port of Dakar, the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency reported Saturday.

MOSCOW, January 4 (RIA Novosti) – Senegal’s navy has detained a Russian fishing vessel, the Oleg Naydenov, and is escorting it to the port of Dakar, the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency reported Saturday.

Yury Parshev, the executive director of the ship owner company Feniks, said two people, including the ship’s captain, were injured during the detention. He said the vessel with 62 Russians and 23 Guinea-Bissau nationals on board had all required permits to operate in Guinea-Bissau’s economic zone.

“The ship has been seized by a Senegalese military vessel. There are some 23 military on board now,” Parshev said, adding that the ship was ordered to head to Dakar.

The Oleg Naydenov was boarded after it was allegedly seen illegally fishing in Senegalese waters near the border with Guinea Bissau, the AFP quoted Senegalese military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Adama Diop as saying.

But Parshev said the vessel did not operate in Senegal, but was fishing in Guinea-Bissau’s waters, and had the required license.
