MOSCOW, January 10 (RIA Novosti) – The leaders of Syria’s main opposition group are planning to meet in Paris on January 12 with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Syrian National Coalition secretary general Badr Jamous said Friday that he and his group's president, Ahmad al-Jarba, were forced to cancel a planned encounter with Lavrov in Moscow scheduled for January 13-14 over time constraints.
“We are short on time, which makes our visit to Moscow impossible,” Jamous said. “We have asked Lavrov to meet with us in Paris, where he will arrive for talks with US State Secretary John Kerry.”
Lavrov and Kerry are expected to discuss preparations for the planned January 22 international peace conference on Syria, known as Geneva 2.
The Western-backed Syrian National Coalition is reportedly facing divisions in its ranks over whether to attend the Geneva peace talks.
