VLADIVOSTOK, January 13 (RIA Novosti) – A lawmaker in Russia’s eastern port city of Nakhodka has been shot dead by hunters after an argument over a killed boar, officials said Monday.
Dmitry Arkushenko, who represented the ruling United Russia party, was shot in the back together with his friend in the Primorye Territory on Saturday after the lawmaker reportedly criticized hunters for dragging a dead wild boar through a village and leaving a trail of blood.
The local legislature chairman, Mikhail Pilipenko, told RIA Novosti that Arkushenko, who was a hunter himself, had been killed by poachers.
But a spokeswoman for the regional branch of the Investigative Committee said Monday that an unidentified suspect who has been arrested and charged with the murder had a license to hunt.
