NOVOKUZNETSK, January 16 (RIA Novosti) – A hapless, rotund suspected robber in Siberia faces jail time over an alleged act of alcohol-motivated thievery that ended with the loss of his false teeth.
Police in the Kemerovo Region said Thursday that the 48-year-old man woke up one night while staying with a friend in the town of Berezovsky and decided he wanted to continue the night’s drinking.
“When he found that the apartment was closed from the outside and that there was no drink left, he stole money and a tool from his co-habitant,” police said in a statement.
According to the police account of events, the man then threw an electric drill and his clothes out the window.
As he squeezed through the small opening, he lost his dentures, police said.
After being detained, the suspect, who police say weighs 100 kilograms (220 pounds), was ordered to re-enact the sequence of events for the purposes of the investigation.
But “this rather large man could not get through the small window he climbed through in the robbery, and got stuck,” police said.
The suspect faces up to five years in jail.
Police say they have returned the dentures.
