MOSCOW, January 16 (RIA Novosti) – A man accused of attacking riot police during an anti-Kremlin demonstration in 2012 was freed by a Moscow court Thursday, the RAPSI legal news service reported.
Criminal charges against Dmitry Altaichinov were dropped after his lawyer requested his client be included in an amnesty signed by President Vladimir Putin last month in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Russian constitution.
Accused of throwing a water bottle at police during violent clashes on central Moscow’s Bolotnaya Square ahead of Putin’s inauguration for a third presidential term, Altaichinov faced charges of violence against agents of the state.
Altaichinov fully admitted his guilt.
Over 600 people were arrested on the day of the clashes, and 27 people have faced subsequent criminal prosecutions. Seven suspects in the so-called Bolotnaya case have so far been amnestied.
