MOSCOW, January 17 (RIA Novosti) – At least five people were injured in a grenade launcher attack followed by a car bomb blast outside a restaurant in the capital of Russia’s restive North Caucasus republic of Dagestan.
The local Interior Ministry said a grenade launcher was initially fired into the building’s second floor. When police officers arrived at the scene, a car bomb went off.
A source in law enforcement said infighting between criminal gangs is being considered as a possible motive for the attack.
“According to initial information, five people, including two police officers, were injured,” a spokesman for the Interior Ministry said.
An official at a hospital in the city earlier said that nine people were being treated for injuries after the blast and that more victims were being admitted.
