MOSCOW, January 22 (RIA Novosti) – The chief of police at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport has been detained for abuse of power over his alleged involvement in an attack on a group of Armenians, investigators said Wednesday.
Maxim Titov was arrested late Tuesday as part of an investigation into an incident dating back to April 2012, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
Titov, who was deputy head of Kommunarsky police department at the time of the attack, allegedly severely beat one in a group of men that failed to show their documents and offered resistance to police, LifeNews TV channel reported.
Titov, who was transferred to Domodedovo after the incident, says he was refused access to his lawyer during the face-to-face questioning at the Investigative Committee and that only a former police officer testified against him.
Other witnesses did not identify him, he said.
He faces a maximum jail sentence of 10 years if found guilty.
