MOSCOW, January 23 (RIA Novosti) – A court in Russia’s Urals region fined a mother 2,500 rubles ($75) for child abuse after she admitted to giving vodka to her kids, including a 3-year-old son, to help them fall asleep.
The mother, Anastasia Kornaukhova, was a heavy drinker who “did not clean up her apartment” and practically left her children to be raised by their neighbors, a regional prosecutor in the city of Ufa told RIA Novosti.
When a criminal case was opened and the mother realized she could lose custody of her children, she mended her ways and ensured that they had necessary food and clothing, the prosecutor said.
Social services will now visit the family regularly to make sure that all is well in the household, the official said.
