During a large-scale re-enactment of the Penetration Corridor, historians re-staged the victorious battle for Leningrad in 1944. 28.01.2014, Sputnik International
This was the largest military historical reenactment of the last few years. It was held to mark the 70th anniversary of the complete lifting of the Nazi siege of Leningrad.
Five aircraft took part in this re-staging of the military operation. Heavy hardware – T-34 tanks, wartime trucks, cars and motorcycles – came into action after the air bombing.
Military hardware and aircraft for the re-enactment were provided by the Russian Military Historic Society. Many units came from Moscow and other regions. Private collectors supplied classic cars.
The re-enactment was very close to historical reality. Soviet troops dealt one of the famous “Stalin’s blows” near this place, at the village of Pirozhki, in 1944. These blows started the operation for the complete lifting of the Nazi siege of Leningrad.
The historic bridge became the center of the action. During the war it was preserved thanks to the efforts of four Soviet scouts. Tanks crossed this bridge during the breaking of the siege.
Over 400 re-enactors took part in the event: 150 from Russia’s regions, the CIS and further abroad and 250 from St Petersburg.
