A newspaper circular, an innovation fair and a music library were among the projects honored Friday for having a positive impact on US-Russia cultural ties at the third annual Silver Archer USA awards.

MOSCOW, February 1 (RIA Novosti) – A newspaper circular, an innovation fair and a music library were among the projects honored Friday for having a positive impact on US-Russia ties at the third annual Silver Archer USA awards.

The awards were presented in Washington, DC to organizers of projects that “expand intergovernmental, cultural, economic and social ties, aimed at furthering Russia’s integration into the global communication space,” according to the ceremony’s website.

Dmitry Petrov, the author of a fictional biography of John F. Kennedy, came first in the history and heritage category, followed by a Russian-themed park in Cleveland and Russia’s first multimedia library for works of theater.

Elena Suvorova-Phillips won the cultural award for her work in organizing theater performances among immigrant families and adopted Russian children in Houston to help them preserve knowledge of their native language.

The category also honored the Russian4Children school in Allen, Texas, and the conductor Alexander Kaminnik for his work in popularizing Russian music in the New York public school system.

The newspaper insert Russia Beyond the Headlines won first place in communication tools for its coverage of the country delivered to millions of members of the American public.

The Moscow exhibition Open Innovations Expo 2013 was honored for its role in promoting cross-border entrepreneurship. It was in competition with a project that seeks to unite Siberians from around the world via social networks.

A sports award was presented to the authors of The Road to Sochi 2014, which promotes the upcoming Winter Games to Americans.

Finally, a special diploma was awarded to the RIA Novosti journalist Carl Schreck for his long-term coverage of US-Russian relations.

The Silver Archer awards for public relations projects began in Russia in 1997 and were expanded in 2011 with the Silver Archer USA awards aimed at honoring projects that promote cultural ties between the two countries.
