MOSCOW, February 4 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian army will increase its training ammunition use fivefold after inspections revealed that soldiers have too little time on the firing range, the country's defense minister said Tuesday.
“Volunteer and conscript soldiers are not shooting nearly enough. This is true in the entire army in general and for all those who pass through our combat training centers,” Sergei Shoigu said.
Shoigu said the country’s military leadership decided to increase trigger time after analyzing the results of last year’s snap inspections of army units.
The army is currently building a new training center near Moscow featuring advanced shooting simulations as part of a plan to improve soldiers’ military preparedness by 2017.
