MOSCOW, February 5 (RIA Novosti) – Sochi Media Center free mobile app was launched by RIA Novosti on February 3, providing non-accredited media representatives with access to information about the center’s events, Digit.ru reports. The app is available for iOS and Android devices.
The app has several different sections featuring Olympic news and the schedule for the sports competitions and for the Media Center’s events, with the option to filter the list by sport and synchronize the app’s calendar with the user’s. It also has a special media section, where R-Sport will post exclusive multimedia Olympic content. Users interested in detailed sports statistics can view the full medal tally.
“The app was developed by the Media Center’s professional team of programmers and organizers,” said Polina Gushchenkova, head of RIA Novosti’s Mobile Projects Desk. “This collaboration allowed us to develop the most convenient pocket guide available in Russian, English and French, so that all Olympic journalists can work without being getting bogged down with the practicalities”.
In addition, the app includes a virtual Sochi guide and an interactive map of the city, marking all the Olympic venues, information terminals, and tourist facilities, including hotels, restaurants, ATMs, hospitals, attractions and main interchange hubs. It can also be used as a navigator – at the press of a button, you can select your route.
In September 2011, the RIA Novosti Group was selected by the International Olympic Committee as the Host National News Agency and Photo Pool for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. In March 2013, RIA Novosti was also named the Host National News Agency for the Sochi Paralympics.
