MOSCOW, February 11 (RIA Novosti) – Russia will conduct a series of in-depth inspections of each of the country’s four military districts this year, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
Inspections in the country’s Eastern Military District have already begun, with more than 60 facilities, bases and units simultaneously under observation by representatives of a specially appointed commission.
“The main objective of the commission is to determine the actual conditions on the ground, as well as to check the effectiveness of the command organization of daily activities in the Eastern Military District,” a ministry spokesman said.
“The results of the commission’s work will be used to formulate recommendations for the further improvement and development of military infrastructure in the Far East.”
The military is currently implementing a massive $650 billion rearmament campaign to replace most of the country’s aging Soviet-era arsenal by 2020.
